TToT45: Sniff, Honk, Sniffle

Yeah, those are the sounds I'm producing these days. It is cold season, after all, and I am one of its victims.

So, short and sweet so I can squeeze in a bit of nap before the evening's events.

1. I made chalk paint! It kind of worked. Enough that I'll try again.

2. I'm nearly entirely caught up on The Good Wife. Season Five has been...astonishing.

3. I dragged myself to the farmer's market and found a cauliflower--just what I wanted.

4. I get to go out to dinner and see a play tonight!

5. I took both kids to the park with a neighbor and her son yesterday. We had a great time.

6. I got to sleep in this morning.

7. Holiday baking has officially started with Rosh Hashanah.

8. Challah makes excellent French toast.

9. I found a bag of Reese's peanut butter cups on my dresser.

10. Surely, nine will do it this week, right, SGV?

  3. You guys do Rosh Hashanah? Did I know that? Wait, I did - you had Hanukkah crafts on here at some point. My brain is fuzzy.

    1. Oh, yes, indeedy, my dear. Is it cold medicine?

  4. You found peanut butter cups? That implies that you lost them. You are a better woman than I if you can forget about chocolate in your house. :-)

    1. It was weird. I just found a bag of them on my dresser so I assumed they were fair game. Turns out I was wrong, but now they're open. Haha!

  5. I'm back because apparently, I couldn't remember that I read this already...sheesh.
That's about what it sounds like in our house, too - I'm on the end ( I hope ) of allergies/cold/now bronchitis. Kidzilla brought School Crud home and the Hub got it right along with her because he's in the same building. Fantastic.
Challah does make great French toast, although I am not a fan of French toast. I much prefer my challah slathered in butter.
I've been meaning to try these cauliflower "steaks" I keep seeing on Pinterest...I should get cauliflower. What did you make with your cauliflower?

    1. I've actually tried them, but my "steaks" don't stay together. A lot of the "trees" came loose with the slicing so I gave up and chopped the whole thing up. But I endorse roasting. I love cauliflower roasted and tossed with a vinaigrette. Delicious!

  6. What play did you get to go and see? Your're so right about the Challah making good french toast.

    1. It was a Sam Sheperd one, which I understand to mean somewhat fantastic (as in fantasy), western, and dreary. It was all three, but good. Interesting.

  7. I'll add number 10, Sarah! You! That you're writing this in spite of a cold!

  8. Feel better. Are your going to post about chalk paint? Sounds interesting. How did those Reese's peanut butter cups get on your dresser?

    1. Turns out they were for my husband's work, and I was not supposed to open them. Woops. :)
I don't know. Maybe. We'll see how it goes.

  9. I second Val, where did the candy come from?? That's a good find right there!
I can't imagine going anywhere in the hopes of finding cauliflower. Not one of my favorite veggies. Glad you found what you were looking for, though.
I hope you feel better really soon. Colds are no fun.

    1. It was for Brian's work. Woops! Yeah, but not really.

  10. You poor dear! Keep eating lots of fresh fruit and veg and getting those vitamins down you. And rest as much as you can. I hope you feel better soon.

I SO NEARLY bought Reese's peanut buttercups yesterday but I decided the better of it. Just as well, cos I had LOTS of cake today.

    1. Too bad it's been such a busy weekend. But I do think I am on the mend. Everything's turning into a cough.

  11. Oh, I'm sorry you're sick! Yuck - cold season already?!
I refinished a dressing table for my daughter with chalk paint, and it's beautiful, but it was expensive! I've read you can make your own. Have you used the real stuff before? How do they compare? I found the secret to using it was actually in the waxing afterwards.
I've never had challah. Is it an egg bread?

    1. Yeah, that's why I made it myself. I've never even used the real stuff. And I think you're right that the secret is in the waxing. I've now done three small items, and I'm thinking of adding some wax to the first. Yeah, right.

  12. I would love to know how to make chalk paint. I could probably find it on Pinterest. Is that where you found it?

I'm so sorry you're sick and I hope your husband realizes that being so totally cancels out opening the bag of Reese's. Totally. You can tell him I said so.

    Feel better soon!

    1. Of course. Pinterest to the rescue. I used the Plaster of Paris version. I'll tell him!

  13. I haven't watched The Good Wife. Should I??? Also, I think I've got a cold, too. It feels like it's been in my nose and lungs for weeks now. Ugh. Hope you're feeling better!!

    1. I don't know. I think it's good but not great. Though season 5 was pretty exciting. I am feeling better--just hoarse.
