TToT51: Food and Frames and Not Freezing

I am thankful to be back in prose again. I won't pretend that my participation in OctPoWriMo was any more than half-hearted at best, but I did meet my goal, so there's that. The only haiku I will be writing for awhile is for Zoe's contest.

In addition, I am thankful for:
  • Vinegar and how it contributes to the flavor of collard and cabbage dishes
  • Pickled garlic (could have fit in the vinegar category but it deserves its own)
  • Chocolate cupcakes
  • Goodwill and its selection of used picture frames
  • Spray paint and how it makes old pictures frames look new
I am thankful for the balls at Dick's Sporting Goods (and the fun of composing that thankful). But, seriously, I don't know why I've never thought of a sporting goods store when it comes to indoor fun. I suspect Dick's will see quite a lot of Leo and me this winter.

I am always thankful for a husband who cares not for public opinion (a good model for me) and who values comfort over fashion in all weathers.

And even though we've seen so little of him these days in a super busy time at work, I am thankful that he brings home the bacon so I don't have to.

What are you thankful for?

P.S. Look! I made those badge-y things!

  1. Ohhh the sports store looks FUN :D What else did you play with?

I'm glad that you're back in prose and able to tell us in more detail about all the good things in your life :)

What have you been up to with picture frames?

    1. Just framing more stuff I had lying around. My theory of decorating is the more the better so I am coating my walls with STUFF. I love it.

  2. Always thankful for the husband and the bacon, so I don't have to. Vinegar is a favorite basic (acid) around here. We love pickled things (beets, cucumbers, barbecue sauce, etc). I've never made collards, but someday I will.

    1. Yeah, we love pickled stuff, too. My kids, especially. My two year old loves the pickled garlic!

      And Goodwill is the bomb!

    1. Sounds awesome, but I'm not ready to give my ittle guy a bow!

    2. (sorry to interrupt, but when I read Zoe's statement about the archery hall…. I naturally went to a visual that involved: Dick's Sporting Goods Store…and announcement "attention shoppers!! live testing of the hunting bows will begin in 5 minutes please leave the store if buying arrows")

  5. I'm thankful the Hub brings home the bacon, too. Sadly, we really need some bacon contribution from me and it's just not getting off the ground. That's a whole other post about how I feel shitty about life right now.
Leo looks like he's having a blast. And anytime you can write about Dick's balls, it's a good day. :D

    1. Not to make you feel more rotten, but I couldn't get to your post yesterday. It was weird. I'll try again today. From my position of absolutely no experience, I feel certain the clients will come. I think you just got off to a slow start with the sickness and all. I'm sorry you feel so rotten about it now, though.

    2. You know, I have quite (nearly) forgotten how lousy I was feeling when I put that comment up - sorry it was so unpleasant! I mean yes, I am frustrated and cranky about the slow start, but you are exactly right. Being sick for so long definitely delayed my launch efforts. Big time. I actually started to feel better when I read something on Michelle's blog while reading TToTs. It was a great thing about frustration and fear and how we react - at the end of her Linus post.
Couldn't get to my post as in my blog was ill-behaved? Or life got in the way? Because if it's the blog, I don't know what to tell you - it's been acting stupid a lot lately.

  6. Well, of COURSE Dick's has balls to play with....
Our Goodwill sorts all the clothes by type and by color.
Your husband rocks the sweat band.

    1. He's one of those people who sweats A LOT, and he wears that band with confidence in the hot months. People have openly pointed and laughed, and he doesn't care.

  7. Looks like great options in the sports store there! And yes, I am thankful for all of us who care not for popular opinion, as long as we are confident in what we believe!

  8. A bin full of balls is always a crowd pleaser! Kids can't resist them and you're right about cheap indoor fun in the winter...brilliant!
I love all things vinegar. And all things garlic. So that was all I needed!

    1. At least for boys, huh? Having a little boy surprised me because my daughter never showed much interest in balls or trucks.

  9. You had me at pickled garlic. YUM!!!

  10. I also think comfort is more important than fashion.

  11. While I do think vinegar is awesome, I can't say I ever used it on collards and cabbage. Mostly because I've never cooked collards or cabbage. Similarly, I love me some garlic, but pickled? Nope. Never even heard of it.
I can get behind the chocolate cupcakes without reservations, though. :)
Never google "Dick's" when looking to buy sports equipment online. Trust me on this one.
    I so enjoy your Brian.

    1. Well, Christine, I am here to tell you you are missing out on vinegar applications.
I'm so glad you enjoy my Brian! I enjoy your Phoenix.

  12. My dad once had a girlfriend who told me after one of THE BEST meals of my life that she didn't enjoy it much because she doesn't like vinegar. He broke up with her soon after that and I think it was a wise wise move. Anyway, I adore old picture frames and sometimes just leave them as is because really they look cool no matter what. And yeah, I am SO SO thankful for a husband who brings home the bacon so that I don't have to, too. Here's to Dicks and balls!!! (hahah sorry couldn't resist)

    1. Clearly, she was not a keeper.
Some old frames are nice. Some need spray paint to spruce em up.

And looooook!!!! You made a badgy-thing!!!! You are too cute. :)

  14. Indoor fun at Dicks is a super idea, especially with a little cutie like yours!. Anyone who scoffs at the fashionistas is beyond amazing and sweatbands are not to trifled with. How did you make the badgy things?

  15. Pickled garlic? I'm not familiar with that - sounds yummy! And I'm with you on Dick's (heehee) -- my son used to love playing there. It was one errand he didn't mind running with me.
