TToT65: Winter, how can you be so obtuse?

Winter, Ivy was kinder than I'm willing to be. Remember her gentle break-up letter? I think maybe the message didn't get through. Therefore, I have two words for you: F*#k off.

I'm so sick of being cold and cleaning up puddles of melted snow and being cooped up and school being out or starting late and hearing nothing but screams and whines and fights from two children who are beyond themselves from being cooped up indoors for too long. I am sick of the necessity of shoes and gloves. I am sick to death of sneezing and runny noses and another empty box of tissues.

In other words, it's time for the TToT.

1. In spite of the fact that I know this thankful will be terribly unoriginal, I would be negligent to omit my great thankfulness to Yvonne for starting 1000 Voices for Compassion, Lizzi for sparking it, the dedicated hosts, and the inspiring contributors, of whose posts I've only read a tiny fraction. My need to write my post and event coincided beautifully, and I am so flattered and touched by the comments I received.

And on to more minor thankfuls:

2. Red beans and rice

3. Beading

4. Free open gym

5. Painting

6. Planning birthday parties with verbal children

7. Lisa's emails

8. No tears last night at bedtime

9. "You mean Leo will keep me company and keep me safe?"

10. And, OK, sledding.

  2. Open gyms are the best for kids and their mothers trapped in the middle of winter.

Your compassion post was awesome. I'm not surprised you got such good feedback.

By the looks of that photo, I can't imagine those two ever fighting. ;)

Here's to spring getting here QUICKLY!

  3. Look at those two sleepy little butts. Leo is an arts and crafts rockstar - look at him! Hooray for so many of these things. You have also made my list this week - I'm just getting ready to post it up in a few minutes.
That's kind of how I feel about winter, too. Once we go over the allotment of snow days and have to start making them up elsewhere I get nine kinds of cranky. And two hour delays, while good in some respects, make my day way too short. So I'm with you.
I'm off to finish my post...here's hoping spring shows up soon!

    1. Aren't they sweet with one sleeping on the other? Maggie really and truly said that to me, and it really hit deep. She will need some taking care of, and I won't be surprised if Leo does it. In spite of her being older. I don't mean to say she's weak. I always needed more taking care of, but I think I am strong. Maybe it took me awhile to find my strength or maybe it just wasn't the kind of strength that helps as much during childhood.

    1. I'm in your camp Ivy - trying to get them in where I can, but such a small drop in the bucket. Zilla's strep kind of changed the landscape of the weekend.

    2. And it was his first time, Ivy! Wasn't he a champ? I asked if he wanted me to go with him, and he said, "No. Own, pease." The only thing he wouldn't allow if for someone else to push him so I wasn't able to get a video from the bottom. He was smiling, though.

  6. Great minds - I wrote about winter, too. Done now, ready for spring. I think I commented on Ivy's blog that winter was a f*ck boy. I believe you agree.

Love the pictures of your darling kiddos, especially the one of them sleeping. Sleeping kids are the best, aren't they?!

    1. As soon as this snow melts, I'm going to have my eyes peeled for crocuses. Surely they are right around the corner. That makes me think of Frog and Toad, and I'm only adding that because you'll probably get the reference. I love alluding to children's books around you.

  7. Winter totally S**Ks. Glad you can find indoor fun to pass the time. No tears at bedtime? The sledding and basketball playing must have tired them out. Here's to blue skies and sunshine and soon Spring.

    1. That is does! But soon you'll be in the warm sands of Aruba!
The tears at bedtime have been really terrible of late, but for good reason--something I haven't written about but might. I finally came up with a time-consuming (but worth it) practice to help.

    1. You know, they were a gift for my daughter for Valentine's from her grandmother. But Leo is the one who really got into stringing them. I encouraged it because I wanted them strung and given away and out from underfoot!
