TToT84: I'm in the Denver airport heading home with three days until my next flight...

My goal is to write this in about twenty minutes.

Our vacation to Utah was absolutely fabulous! Among other adventures, we:

1. Hiked.

2. Slid.

3. Zip-lined.

4. BOBSLEDDED!!!!

5. Coasted.

6. Got hennaed.

7. Ate and drank.

8. Ski lifted.

I've never been one for extreme sports, but I kind of got into it--perhaps because most of these were fairly tame as extreme sports go, with the exception of the bobsledding, which was on the 2002 Olympic track and gave me a whole new appreciation for the athleticism of bobsledders as my arms shook for a full thirty minutes afterwards. Oddly enough, it was the ski lift that terrified me. I derive a great deal of comfort from being strapped in, I find, and that thing is way too open and airy. I grabbed hold of the bar, set my sights in one place, and did not relax my muscles until I'd reached the top (OK, I smiled in the pic above, but you can see my knuckles). Still can't believe I let my kids get on it.

9. In hypo-gratitude (I think I'm using that right), I am thankful I was not the one who fell off the car on the alpine slide and ended up with burns and bruises all down my right side.

10. I'm headed for my own bed tonight!

Boy Howdy, I did it!

OK, technically I'm posting this the Sunday morning. One extra: we got in at 2 am and I slept until 11am.

  1. After being away a night in one's own bed is divine. All of your adventures look exciting - I know my two young men would love the zip-line. Your pictures have that lovely clarity that comes from dry air. Ouch on that rug burn type scrape - those hurt!

    1. That burn is so bad. It's poor Brian's. I surprised myself how much I loved the zipline. I was nearly in tears before it started.

  2. OH! OH! OH! OWCH! THAT BURN LOOKS BAD! OW!

Ohhhhh poor person who got that!

Bless your little white-knuckle ski-lift ride, but I'm glad you had such a super time, and well done for the whistle-stop-thankful before running out to your next trip. Have a gorgeous time.

  3. What a great get away. I miss the red earth of that area, there is just no color like it. I feel the same about ski lifts. Those moments when I have to act brave so the kids feel brave... ya... that's what it is for me.

    1. Yeah, I like the color too. You can find that in AL also. Ski lifts are awful.

  4. Awesome vacation! I so often alpine slide and got burned pretty bad once but I felt like I was the lucky one because the kid in front of me ran past a porcupine and got hit. That's why I went off the track

    1. The bobsledding was crazy! It took so much strength to hold myself semi-still!

  6. Ouch! Looks like the burn I got wiping out on my rollerblades years ago when I still did that. But, WOW, fun! Motivating actually. I love the little guy in sunglasses peeking out on the ski lift.

  7. nicely done! (the back to back action-oriented vacays are the best).
excellent deploying of the TToT-concept of 'hypo-gratitude'!

  8. OuchOuchOuch to the burn! I love Alpine Slides and Utah but I freaked out on the ski lift in Winter Park last fall mostly because I was scared that Tucker was going to fall out. What a wonderful vacation!!!

    1. The whole way up the first time, I kept saying, "What is the back falls off? What is the whole thing drops? What if I slip through?" Brian was cracking up. Then with the kids? "DON'T TAKE YOUR HANDS OFF THE BAR!!!!!!!"

  9. Bobsledding would be fun. So would the slide. And the hiking, if there weren't snakes and it wasn't too hot. Big no on the ski lift and the zip line. Glad you had fun!

    1. Bobsledding was crazy hard, Dyanne! I had no idea how much strength it took to stay upright! No snakes, thank God.

  10. I'm so proud of you! I know how much it would take for me to do any of that, never mind all of it! The ski lift? Uh, no thanks. That burn looks nas-ty. Here's to fast healing!

    1. Aren't they beautiful in their way, though? It's a bit desert-y in places and then there are mountain covered with fir trees.

  12. Oh, that injury looks painful. The rest of it all makes it look pretty worthwhile though! Hope the owner of the ouchie thinks so!

  14. The land in Utah is just beautiful. I lived out in Colorado for awhile and the mountain-scapes are breathtaking. I'm not one for extreme sports, but at least your whole family was with you. I'm glad you had a wonderful vacation.

  15. That was an action-packed adventure vacation and the stuff of so many good memories to savor for years to come! You are so much braver than me! And as always, at the end there is no place like home and the comfort of your own soft bed.
